****** I apologize in advance, this is a long post*******
(120) Disney Movie: Cinderella (2015) This is my favorite live action Disney Princess movie so far. I say so far because I know they are still making them. I love how they give way more background on Ella's childhood in this film. I also like how they had Ella and the Prince meet before the ball. Speaking of the Prince, who Ella calls him "Kit" in this film, his eyes are brilliantly blue and he is a red head... I was swooning when I saw him. The costumes in this film were amazing, however.... I did not like Ella's blue ballgown as much. I feel like they should have stayed truer to the original ballgown, because that one was so special in the first film. I will say I do like the thought they had with the dress though with Ella still wanting it to be the same material/still somewhat resemble her mothers dress. Just wish it could have looked a bit better. Cate Blanche was the perfectly wicked/evil Step Mother, they also give more on her background in this story as well. The step sisters were also very pretty in this version unlike the original. Stellan Skarsgard (Disney Movies: Pirate's of the Caribbean 2&3- Bootstrap Bill Turner (Will's father) and also in some Thor and Avengers Movies) played the Grand Duke which was another villain in this film, which was very different from the original. I love how they gave the prince way more scenes and a best friend (the Captain of the Guard) I do miss the mice talking, the mice are still in the movie, but Jaq was turned into a Jacqueline a female mouse. That is the only thing that I would change, the mice. But, all in all great movie.
(121) Disney Movie: Zootopia (2016) This was a super cute film. So much subtle humor. The carrot pen that records someone talking that Judy uses against the fox Nick Wilde, as a way to help her solve her case. I love "Mr. Big" the mouse who is resembles the "Godfather's" movie and character. I like how a rabbit and a fox become best friends. The viewers don't expect it at all. So many clever puns in this film too. Also Ginnifer Goodwin who voices Judy (the female rabbit cop) played Snow White in my all time favorite TV show Once Upon a Time.
(122) Disney Movie: Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) This movie explains how the red queen ended up the way she did. Along with how the white queen became the queen their parents, the original king and queen, gave her that title, which I think is cool. I do not like that they put Alice in a mental hospital thought I understand why. Movie is just okay.
(123) Disney Movie: Finding Dory (2016) Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming.... I loved this movie. I am glad they gave Dory her own movie. Thank you Ellen DeGeneres for fighting for that for so long. Loved all the subtle things they included in this film. Like the original Nemo was grown up and couldn't do his role as Nemo is a child in these films, but they still gave him a part in the movie. It's really great how they showed how Dory learned how to speak whale. We learn the origin of how the Just Keep Swimming song came from. Dory's parents (voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton) they taught it to her to help her. We find out that she had short term memory loss her entire life and her parents were struggling how to teach her to be able to function on her own and it also shows the toll it took on them. They never gave up though, even when Dory disappeared for several years, they created a small home near where they got separated and began collecting shells to create paths that lead to their new home so Dory could find them. They taught her to follow paths of shells so she could always find. her way home. We learn just how much Dory actually remembers of her childhood and all the fun facts that she absorbed when she lived in the Marine Life Institute where she was born and spent most of her early childhood with her parents. The seals are hilarious in this film. The two seals who are so protective of their rock and another seal who carries a bucket around in his mouth. Also they so a concept I never even thought of an octopus driving a truck. How creative is that? This is just a great movie with all the feel goods in it. 10/10 must see movie.
(124) Disney Movie: Pete's Dragon (2016) This movie I saw once in theaters. I know it is based off the animated movie from many years ago which that was based off a book. I thought it was okay in theaters, but have not made the effort to watch again. I am glad that the little boy from the film got adopted and they let him see Elliot (the dragon) in the end again. Otherwise, I think if I was younger and had more background like with the book and the original movie I might have more to say but I really don't have a strong opinion on this movie.
(125) Disney Movie: Moana (2016) How Far I'll Go, and You're Welcome, are some of the most well know Disney songs this day, for grownups and children. Your Welcome is courtesy to the very handsome Dwayne Johnson. He makes a lot of women and I am sure some men as well swoon when he sings that song live. A unique thing about this movie is how Moana is technically not a true Princess. Yes, she is the daughter of the chief, but he is not a King. So by definition she is NOT a princess. I am glad that she keeps setting Maui straight in the film, because she in fact not one. That doesn't mean she is not important and not an icon like the true Disney Princesses are. Also Moana get's the best deal out of most of the Disney princesses (other than Elsa and Anna who are sisters who are both Queen's in their story's at one point without a king husband, live action Queen Clarice and Queen (Princess) Mia who don't have a man ruling by their side/they have to obey.) Moana will be a Chief. When she gets married her husband won't be a ruler. She'll be his. I like that. A beautiful family act of this movie is Moana's grandmother kept her on track for her destiny almost the entire film, if it wasn't for her grandmother's spirit she would never have crossed the reef safely and if it wasn't for her Grandmother's spirit/ghost then Moana never would have gone back into the ocean after the heart of Tifiti. So Grandma rules! The thing that I enjoy the most about this film is how they have tattoos as a major part of the storyline. Maui's tattoos tell his life stories and has a mini him as his conscience, Moana's grandmothers became her spirit/ghost after she died. Which I believe that's what tattoos should be for. To tell your story. Also the Bible and other religious books say your body is a temple- what's wrong with decorating the walls? Food for thought. Great movie recommend for all ages.
(126) Disney Movie: Beauty and the Beast (2017) I was super excited to see this movie in theaters. Because I mean Emma Watson, hello Hermione Granger..... I was her character (from Harry Potter series) for four halloweens in the row. I still have the crimper we used on my hair to make me look like her in the first couple movies. When I saw this in theaters the first time I heard several kids in the audience gasp and or yell "Oh my gosh that's Hermione", before getting hushed by the adult with them. Anyways, it was really interesting seeing her play a Disney Princess, but basically it was a very similar character besides her not having the ability to perform her own magic. She is still unbelievably smart, obsessed with books and learning everything she possibly can. Most importantly she is not willing to stand down and keeps fighting for those she loves. But I was glad hearing her singing voice in this in Harry Potter series we only have one movie the 4th (The Goblet of Fire) where there are two scenes where she is singing the same song, but with others both times. This is the first Disney movie to give a Prince a full on solo of his own. I liked it. I grew up listening to that type of music because my sister is an opera singer, so I loved it. I don't know how they did it but Gaston in this version was even more evil than the original movie. I love how they gave more background on all the people and the history of why no one knew there was a gorgeous castle near by. This live action version also explains why Belle and her father stuck out like a sore thumb in their village. It was a good movie. I do recommend this movie.
(127) Disney Movie: Pirate's of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) Drink up me hearty's, yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me.... We have reached the 5th movie of this series. I am glad, but sad too. I was so pumped when this movie came to theaters. My friends kept promising we would go see it together, however when they all bailed, my amazing father volunteered and took me to go see it. (I am including the picture my dad took of me in front of the poster. It's at the bottom of this post.) I cannot believe it's already been seven years. Back to facts of the movie. WILL TURNER AND ELIZABETH SWANN-TURNER ARE BACK! Will has three scenes and Elizabeth has two. The movie is about Will and Elizabeth's son, Henry breaking the curse his father is under so Will can come back to his family for good. Henry Swann Turner, finds his father as a boy a year after he meets him for the first time. He brings the Dutchman ship to shore so he can talk to his dad and tell him of his plan. Then goes back and flashes forward to when he is nineteen years of age and he is in Royal Navy, that he has studied every curse at sea, and has been searching for Jack Sparrow. We find out that Barbossa has become the most feared pirate and wealthy pirate with several ships in his fleet. We also find out that he has a DAUGHTER. She happens to be the same age as Henry, Will and Elizabeth's son. Unfortunately, after her mother dies while she is an infant, Barbossa dropped her off on the doorstep of an orphanage hoping she would find a better life he could give her. He leaves her with a journal with a ruby attached to it. Carina grew up to be a scientist however people mistake her for a witch. Barbossa goes to see a real witch to ask her advice and to see if she can see into the future what is going to happen. She asked him is this treasure is worth dying for. He responds "I am a pirate, all treasure is worth dying for." Not knowing that statement would seal his fate. At one point after all curses of the sea are broken and Barbossa is trying to rescue Jack, Henry, and Carina. Carina begins to fall and he grabs her arm. He moves his arm so she can see his tattoo that is the constellation she is named after. She asks him, "Who am I to you?" He responds, "Treasure." Then sees the villain of the film climbing the anchor (that's who he was rescuing them because they were at the bottom of the ocean in Poseidon's tomb) Barbossa helps Carina put her hand on the anchors chain, makes sure she has a good grip, then Jack tosses him a sword. Barbossa is able to kill the villain, however he sacrifices his own life to save his daughter and everyone else. The witch warned him about it being a treasure he was going to die for and she was right. Carina realized he was her father during all that. She decides to take on her fathers last name other than her mothers. In the end, Henry is reunited with Will his father, and Will also reunites with his wife Elizabeth. Henry and Carina are together, Will and Elizabeth are reunited and Jack sails off in the Pearl following the stars. The scene after the credits show Will sleeping in bed with Elizabeth and has a nightmare and wakes up. After he goes back to sleep holding Elizabeth, we as viewers realize his dream was a preminission. Davy Jones is back, because the Dutchman must have a captain. Also Keira Knightly the actress who portrays Elizabeth only has two scenes in this film because she was pregnant at the time and that would have been very hard explaining that in the storyline/hiding it.
(128) Disney Movie: Incredibles 2 (2018) This movie picks up right where the last movie left off when it came out fourteen years ago (at that time) were the bad guy the Underminer threatens the city and tries to break into a bank. However he got away and the police captured the incredible family. Tony the guy that Violet was dating saw her without her mask on in her super suit and unfortunately the super hero protection program erases all of his memories of Violet completely so he forgets their date that he was supposed to have with her and she thinks she is stood up. A company run by a brother and sister want to support the superheroes to become legal again and put them up in a fancy house and take care of things financially. However the superhero they want to use to launch the program is Elastigirl instead of her husband Mr. Incredible. Which makes Bob Parr becomes Mr. Mom while Helen is off being a superhero. He gets in a little over his head, by doing Math homework with his son Dash, finding out that Jack Jack his baby son has powers. Not just one power, but multiple and they are out of control. So Bob goes to Edna Mode "E" for help. She at first refuses because she is mad that Helen's new Elastigirl suit was not designed by herself but her competitor. Luckily, once E see's how many powers Jack Jack has and how fascinated she becomes with designing a suit for him, she keeps the baby for almost two days while Bob gets some sleep as he had not slept in several days. She designs a suit to help control all of Jack Jack's powers which also has a remote control with it to activate certain items to help control the suit. The bad guy of this film turns to be the sister of the sibling duo trying to help superheroes. The brother is actually good and trying to help, but the sister has a grudge and a desire to get vengeance for her parents whom she blames superheroes for her parents deaths. Lots more stuff happens in this film, like other superheroes coming out of hiding. I really like this movie, I just wish it had come out sooner. The kids (like I was) from 2004 when the first movie came out are all adults now and not all adults like to watch kids movies, but hopefully if they have children they would watch it then and share the joy of the first movie with them. Recommend 8/10, only reason I am giving 8 is because I wish it had come out sooner, but storyline is good. **** Be sure to check out the short film that goes with this movie, it's called "Auntie Edna." It shows the two days Edna had Jack Jack, her studying him and her discovering all of his powers.
(129) Disney Movie: Mary Poppins Returns "2" (2018) The sequel of the beloved movie that my sister and I love. My family members that were children when the first movie came out were over joyed saying they waited so long for a sequel for this film. My one aunt's eyes sparkled with wonder and delight while watching the movie in theaters like she couldn't believe it was actually happening. This movie made it much more clear that the goal was to save the father. Who is young Michael Banks all grown up with three children of his own, the older two were boy and girl twins John and Annabel, and his young son Georgie Banks whom had been named after Michael's father the children's grandfather; George Banks. This film, shows Michael and Jane as adults, Michael lost his wife the mother of his three children the year before. Jane was still single living in a flat in town, while Michael and his children lived in their childhood home. Their parents had passed on at this point. The children have been taking care of themselves mostly in the past year because Michael is a mess with pretty much everything. While Ellen (Julie Walters) their family housekeeper is much older than she was in the first film as she was their housekeeper when the Michael and Jane were children. Jane makes a comment to Michael about how he needs help. The bank that George Banks worked for hired Michael as a part-time teller. Michael needed to support his family and he couldn't do that as an artist. Before Michael began the teller job took a large loan out from the bank after his wife died to help pay for expenses, In the second scene of the film it shows Michael was so behind on payments, he kept forgetting about them because he said that his wife used to handle the household bills. Since he was so far behind on his payments, the bank wanted to charge interest and if he didn't pay the full amount plus interest, the bank was going to repossess his family home. Thankfully the children were on their way to the store to buy some bread and other grocery items when the bank was telling them this, but Jane was at the house and over heard. They remembered their father owned shares in the bank. Michael and Jane decided to look for them to use so they could pay off the loan and not lose their childhood home. Then the film moves to show the children. They are at the park and Georgie runs off as he spots his kite has flown away. The twins chase off after him, but at this point the kite had started to carry Georgie off, luckily Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) the lamp lighter who happened to be Bert's apprentice as a child, is able to catch Georgie. Jack helps Georgie reel in the kite which has gone incredibly high, to find Mary Poppins (now played by Emily Blunt) was at the other end of the kite in the sky with her bird talking Umbrella and her famous carpet bag. She immediately starts barking orders at the twins who have now caught up and found out what happened. She explains she was their fathers nanny and that she has come to take care of them. She tells them to go back home as they are in much need of a bath. They are shocked by how this woman they just met is speaking to them, but after some reassurance from Jack they follow her back to their house. Michael and Jane are absolutely floored to see her and that she hadn't aged at all. Mary Poppins gets her old room in the house back and begins her job taking care of the next generation of the Banks children. They go on some magical adventures with her like their father and Aunt Jane did as a child, but instead of Bert, Jack joined them. She helps Michael see his children in a new light. A romance blossoms between Jane and the lamp lighter Jack. Ellen is so glad that Jane is smiling again. She watched that girl grow up and wants to see her find love. We also meet Mary Poppins cousin Topsy (Meryl Streep) in this film, it's just a small part but she is important because she fixes the children's mother's favorite bowl that they broke. Colin Firth plays the villain in this film, the nephew of Mr. Dawes Jr. (Dick Van Dyke) But gladly Mr. Dawes finds out what his nephew has been up to and fires him. After a little song and dance (remember this movie is a musical) Mr. Dawes tells Michael to forget about the loan. He would have never done what his nephew did. He tells everyone in the room (Jane, Mary Poppins, Michael, Michael's children, and Jack) a story about Michael giving his father a tuppence that he originally wanted to give to a bird lady. George Banks told Mr. Dawes to guard it well and after a few clever investments it had plenty of money in it that could pay off the loan that his nephew was illegally taking from Michael. Mr. Dawes tells Michael to save them for his children. Michael gets the keys to his home back and after two weeks of people putting their house back together they are finally going back to it. Mary Poppins is still with the Banks family and Michael says she will always have a home with them. The fair is going on in the park and the children ask if they can go. So they all go into the park while Mary Poppins doesn't follow right away. Then you see balloons and hear a woman singing. This part was originally written for Julie Andrews the original Mary Poppins to make a cameo as this character, but she opted out because she claimed she didn't want to take the spot light from Emily Blunt the new Mary Poppins. Anyhow Angela Lansbury is the balloon lady. She helps Michael feel like a child again and Michael get his memories of the adventures he and his sister went on with Mary Poppins were all true (he had been denying them the whole movie). Then everyone (except the villain Collin Firths character, I can't remember his name) starts floating in the air with their balloons. Mary Poppins has the last balloon and she watches in the balloon Michael, Jane, Ellen, and the children arriving back at the Banks family home and the door rushes open and then the balloon flys away. Mary Poppins said "It's time." and opened her umbrella up and she and her carpet bag were lifted up into the air. Michael and Jane realized the door opening like that meant Mary Poppins was leaving them once again. They looked up at the sky to say goodbye. This was a beautiful movie in my eyes. The children were grieving their mother in this film and Mary Poppins helped them process that and sings them a song called "Where the Lost Things Go." (This song had me crying the first time I heard it because it made me think of losing my mother) the children then sing this song to their father saying they haven't truly lost their mother (Michael's wife) that she is still with them. Beautiful, beautiful message. *****This post has 11 movie reviews on it as well as the next post."""""
(130) Disney Movie: Dumbo (2019) I saw this movie one time. It is extremely different than the first film and that kind of threw me off. The humans play a bigger role in this film that the animals, which it does make sense because this is a live action film and you typically need humans to play more roles in live action films. I remember one of the women from the circus acts and a father and his son who are also involved in the circus that the elephants are in work together to free Dumbo's mother so she can reunite with her son Dumbo. They know she wasn't being mean to the people because she was dangerous and vicious which is how the other circus people made her out to be. She only attacked the other people because they were threatening and making fun of her baby elephant Dumbo. She was just being a protective mother. I can't really give this movie a proper rating since I only saw it once and it was hard for me to follow. I will watch it again someday and maybe I'll come back and edit this review so I can give it an actual rating.
Picture from the day I saw Pirates of the Caribbean- Dead Men Tell No Tales
****I was so happy. I was smiling and holding back tears of joy so my eyes were closed. I was all decked out in my Pirates of the Caribbean gear. The medallion from the first film, rings, earrings, a bracelet, all from the official fan store, not shown but I had my mini Captain Jack Sparrow in my purse. I also wore the blue dress because oceans are blue, and that's what pirates sail on. It's weird looking at this picture now because my arms are bare in this photo while they are covered in tattoos at this point in my life while I am writing this.
